Learn To Swim Recap: Tropical Estates Park

MIAMI, July 24 – The Miami HEAT teamed up with Florida Blue, Sun Sports and the American Red Cross to surprise summer camp participants during their swimming lessons on Wednesday, July 23 at Miami-Dade County’s Tropical Estates Park Pool. As part of the HEAT Learn to Swim community water safety campaign, HEAT Legend Tim Hardaway made a surprise visit, and was joined by HEAT Public Address Announcer Michael Baiamonte, as well as Florida Blue Market President Penny Shaffer, Sun Sports Media Relations Manager Eric Esteban, Miami-Dade County District 10 Commissioner Sen. Javier D. Souto, and American Red Cross Miami-Dade Chapter Executive Alfred Sanchez to provide instruction to the children.

Tim Hardaway and HEAT Dancers participated in the swimming lessons orchestrated by the water safety instructors from Tropical Estates Park. Each of the four drills in the pool were separated by age and swimming level. The HEAT Dancers and Hardaway rotated between each drill and made it a memorable experience for all the kids involved.

In its 13th year of existence, the Miami HEAT Learn to Swim program highlights the importance of water safety to parents and children throughout the region. Drowning is a leading cause of death for children under the age of four in the state of Florida. With an abundance of bodies of water and residential swimming pools in South Florida, the goal of the Learn to Swim program is to prevent these tragedies.

The HEAT have created a printable coupon good for $10 off swimming lessons that is available for download at the following link HERE along with the list of authorized providers of American Red Cross aquatic programs.
