HEAT Re-Signs Dwyane Wade

MIAMI, July 10 – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have re-signed guard Dwyane Wade. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“For over a decade, Dwyane has embodied what it means to wear the Miami HEAT uniform,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “He has been the pillar and constant of this organization, and is a true champion in every sense of the word. We are thrilled that Dwyane has re-signed and will lead us as we look to win another NBA Championship.”

Wade, a three-time NBA Champion, has played his entire 12-year NBA career with the HEAT, appearing in 781 regular season games (772 starts) averaging 24.1 points, 5.9 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 1.71 steals and 36.2 minutes while shooting 49.0 percent from the field. The 11-time NBA All-Star is the HEAT’s all-time leader in points (18,812), field goals made (6,785), free throws made (4,863), double-figure scoring efforts (749), assists (4,600), steals (1,335), starts, games played and minutes played (28,302). He also ranks among the HEAT’s all-time leaders in blocks (2nd, 717), double-doubles (4th, 119), total rebounds (4th, 3,824), defensive rebounds (4th, 2,830), offensive rebounds (5th, 994), field goal percentage (7th, .490) and three-point field goals made (7th, 379).

Last season, he appeared in 62 games (all starts) and averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.18 steals and 31.8 minutes while shooting 47.0 percent from the field. He scored in double-figures 58 times, including 37 20-point games, while leading the team in points and assists a team-high 35 and 29 times, respectively. He also led the team in steals 18 times, minutes and blocks seven times each, and in rebounds on two occasions. Additionally, he ranked among NBA leaders in scoring average (11th), assists per game (tied for 26th) and field goal percentage (39th). He was selected as an Eastern Conference reserve for the All-Star Game, but sat out due to injury, and earned NBA Player of the Week honors for the week ending March 22.

Wade, the 2006 NBA Finals MVP, has appeared in 152 career postseason games (all starts) and averaged 22.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.64 steals, 1.01 blocks and 38.9 minutes while shooting 47.8 percent from the field. He has appeared in 28 postseason series, the most by any player in HEAT history and his 3,481 career postseason points are the 17th-most in NBA history, just 126 points shy from tying Wilt Chamberlain for 16th place on the league’s all-time list.
